    PDRC Career Development Workshop Held

    Kathmandu, 22 April 2014 – Professional Development and Research Center (PDRC) organized a workshop entitled PDRC Career Development Workshop 2014 in collaboration with the Human Resource Department of the US Embassy on 22 April 2014 at SAP Falcha, Babarmahal, Kathmandu. 20 graduate Dalit youths from various educational and professional backgrounds participated in the workshop. The purpose of this workshop was to explore the potential educated Dalit youths and equip them with the skills and competencies required for their professional career. The resource persons from the US embassy shared their knowledge and experience on career development as a resource person. Among the resource persons were US embassy HR department head, Christine M. Eichinger.

    Rup Sunar, PDRC Acting Executive Director, started the program with a welcome speech and threw light on the objectives of the workshop. It was then followed by a session on CV and cover page writing where Snehi Shrestha, one of the resource persons from the Embassy, talked about the basics and “usually neglected” aspects of CV writing along with vital elements in CV expected by the recruiters and ways to create an ideal resume. After the presentation on the cover letter, she wrapped up the first phase by emphasizing on the importance of networking for a better career.

    In the second phase of the workshop, another resource person Ranjan Mishra started the session underlining the value of documents and certificates of experience followed by a recruitment system in the US Embassy. The session turned interactive as Mr. Mishra talked about the current scenario and Dos/Don’ts of the interview. Similarly, the third and the last session of the workshop was interesting as it was about building a career on individual strength. Sneha Shrestha with a wide range of practical illustrations presented on identifying own strength and developing a career on its basis. Signs of strength, the value of teamwork and the way to deal with weakness were the other topics presented in the session.

    In the ending phase of the workshop, PDRC President Kamala Hemchuri congratulated all the participants with Tika and US Embassy HR Department Head Christine Eichinger handed over the certificate of participation. The HR Department head marked the program as a platform for the Embassy to know about the education and professional status of educated youths, Dalit youths in particular while PDRC President officially wrapped up the program with a vote of thanks for collaborating partner shared her optimistic hope for assistance in the future from the Embassy.  The three hours’ workshop saw the enthusiasm and the learning attitude from all the participants through their active involvement throughout the program and was followed by refreshment.
