Kathmandu, Nepal 24 April 2018: Around 300 people representing different civil society organizations participated in a rally organized to celebrate Global Action Week for Education (GAWE).The main purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of education for achieving sustainability and the commitments made by all to reach the global education goal by 2030.
The rally which saw the active participation of youth kicked off at 3:00 PM from Bhadrakali, Kathmandu and turned into a mass gathering at Shanti Batika, Ratnapark. During the rally, several education-related slogans were shouted to draw the attention of the government. NCE president Kumar Bhattarai said that the government should make an enabling environment to bring all children in school. Other speakers also highlighted the need of improving quality of the public schools where 83% of students rely on for their education.
The speakers mainly laid emphasis on removing structural barriers to improve the quality of public education. This campaign is being conducted under the coordination of National Campaign for Education and PDRC is one of the core organizing committee members.
