Mr Charmakar is a human rights and development professional with more than 14 years of demonstrated history of working in the civic & social organizations (Government, I/NGOs and UN Agencies). He has extensive knowledge and hands-on experience around the themes of promoting rights of a marginalized and disadvantaged community, peace-building, democracy and governance, GESI, humanitarian assistance and DRR.
Currently, he is a Regional Coordinator for the South Asia Brick Kiln Consortium and has been providing the leadership for the smooth functioning of this consortium at the regional level. Prior to this, he worked with United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) as a National Project Coordinator and implemented a project to mainstream the vulnerable beneficiaries in the ongoing reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structures in a rural setting. Previously he was Senior Programme Manager with NNDSWO and Programme Manager with SAMATA foundation and managed a diverse portfolio of projects/programs. His other professional engagements were with UNDP Nepal, United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), National Human Rights Commission of Nepal.
Mr. Charmakar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and a Master’s Degree in Sociology with a specialization in Gender Studies and Project Management from the Tribhuvan University of Nepal. He is also a PRINCE2® certified project management professional from the EXELOS Limited/People-cert International Limited, UK and CIPS-Level 2 certified public procurement practitioner from Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, UK. In addition, he has received other professional training and short-termed courses.
